Transforming wireframes into detailed high-fidelity designs, incorporating F1 branding to align with project requirements.
What is The F1 Exhibition?
It's an immersive experience that's traveling around Europe. It takes visitors on an interactive journey through the past, present and future of F1 via a series of purpose-built rooms, with each telling different aspects of the story. Rooms range from 'Once Upon A Time In Formula 1', which transports fans through the sport’s defining moments, to 'Drivers And Duels', a race circuit-inspired room that celebrates some of the most iconic drivers in F1.

Wireframes
Pre-existing wireframes provided a foundational blueprint outlining the core functionality for the admin application.
The app's primary function was to display all current simulator rigs, indicating their availability and remaining time for each player's session. When selecting an available rig, an admin could input a player's name and ticket number, then proceed to start their session. For ongoing sessions, the admin had the capability to reset the player to the track, end the session, or restart the simulator as necessary.
Additionally, the application included a PIN-protected simulator setup page. This feature would allow admins to manage simulation rigs by adding, editing, or deleting them, as well as adjusting venue settings and modifying leaderboard settings.
High Fidelity
My job was to further develop these wireframes and apply Formula 1's branding to them. After reading through the branding guidelines for the exhibition, I decided to take inspiration from their website. I felt that using their vertical gridline design aesthetic would fit well with this admin app.
After a few iterations and client feedback, we finalized the designs. One of the most important aspects was ensuring that available rigs were clearly indicated, I did this via the use of the bright green colour overlay and creating a birds-eye shot vector graphic of Max Verstappen's current F1 car when a rig didn't have a players name shown.
I was also asked to make some small changes to an introduction screen for the simulator, which consisted of altering some text and adding an additional graphic.
App in action
I was kindly sent a nice picture and short video of the simulator rigs being tested using the admin app I helped design, hopefully in the future I'll be able to update this with a few more!
This was an incredibly cool project to work on, and I truly never thought I'd have the chance to be involved with something as well-known as Formula 1!
I want to give a special thanks to Sysco Productions for giving me the opportunity to work on this, and another special thanks to Jake Finnigan for reaching out and being an all-around great boss!
